We figured there’s no one better to help you with your own balancing act, so here are her 7 secrets to finding balance in your life!

HELLO BEAUTIFULS!

For those of you who don’t know, I have struggled quite a bit to find balance in my life. I am an all-or-nothing person. For many years, I was either doing yoga twice a day every day, training for a half marathon, eating only veggies and fruit (which I do not recommend) and obsessing over sleeping enough so I could wake up early and do it all again… And if I wasn’t doing that, I was staying out late, drinking alcohol nearly every night, having major insomnia issues and trying to do all of those things anyway. Extreme? Yeah. Fun life? Not so much.

Then I developed an eating disorder that began taking over my life, and it was time to ditch the extremes. I stopped labeling myself as a vegan, I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to be “prefect” in all areas of life and I started LIVING!!! It was a pretty amazing transition. So here, from me to you, are my top 7 secrets & tips for finding balance in the crazy awesome lives we all lead…

LABELS AREN’T FOR PEOPLE

Labels aren’t for people, so don’t label yourself when you don’t need to! This secret is #1 on my list because it is, far and away, the most important. The moment you label yourself in any way, you’re putting yourself into a box. For me, labeling myself as a “vegan” and then a “plant-based vegan” and eventually a “raw vegan” was all detrimental to my overall happiness and wellbeing, because it didn’t allow room for change or growth. I was stuck within the label, and when my body needed more nutrients a few years down the line, I wasn’t able to make those necessary changes. I had also labeled myself “thin” and “fit” and all of these words that, in my mind, were supposed to work together and add up to ultimate perfection. In the end, I’ve let go of those labels and it is so much happier to be myself and to live in the moment. It’s a great little secret… Just live, and don’t get stuck in the labels.

FIND WHAT YOU LOVE, AND BE CONSISTENT WITH IT

A huge reason why we tend to get stuck in extremes is because we aren’t happy with a certain aspect of our life, and we feel like we need to change it. If we find a routine that we enjoy, it’s easy to remain consistent. Then, instead of trying to make changes and accidentally going overboard with diet plans and fitness routines, we already have our healthy lifestyle in check. And not only that, but we enjoy it. Sometimes that means trying new things until we land on what we love, which brings me to #3…

NEVER STOP TRYING NEW THINGS

Never stop trying new things, especially when it comes to fitness. You never know when you are going to fall in love with something new. I have been a major yoga junkie for the last 10 years, but if I only did yoga and no other type of exercise then I would be “stuck” using all of the same muscles all the time and stunting myself from trying great new workouts that I might fall in love with. I try to be as open as possible when it comes to trying new workout classes and studios, because sometimes I fall in love with something I least expect! Then when you have more options available that you love, it’s easy to stay on top of your workouts. It’s also balanced because you are switching it up throughout the week.

DON’T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF!

Striving for perfection is something that can really come around and bit us in the butt. Life is an ebb and flow, and it’s all about living in that happy medium. There is no reason to beat yourself up for eating a cupcake. Enjoy the cupcake, remember that you at it because you wanted it, eat a healthy meal tomorrow, and move on! You’ve got to live a little, and people who do that are much happier than people who have overly strict rules for themselves when it comes to health and fitness.

PREP YOUR MEALS AHEAD OF TIME

If you’re an on-the-go person (aren’t we all?), prep your meals ahead of time to make things easier on yourself. I am ALL about the meal prep! I live a jam-packed busy life in the best of ways, and if I was bothered to figure my meal situation out 3 times a day every day, I would run out of time. I like to prepare my morning smoothies and chicken/veggie lunches ahead of time so that there is no stress. Of course I still leave plenty of room for spontaneity and fun dinners with friends! There is a balance between the two.

PURSUE YOUR PASSIONS

Pursue your passions in all areas of life. When you are fulfilling your needs and passions in all areas of life, you can take care of yourself much better. Happy people are the healthiest people. Happy people are motivated to feel good, look great (if that’s important to you), and radiate health and confidence from the inside out. Life is not all about one thing, it’s about a multitude of things and how well they mesh and combine!

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE

This is huge! This really is the #1, aside from not labeling yourself. Surround yourself with awesome, driven, happy, like-minded people who want to lift you lift you up and see you succeed. This means lots of gym buddies, healthy dining partners and people you can let loose and have fun with. Whatever you need in a friend or meaningful relationship, seek that out and don’t sell yourself short. Being surrounded by a killer tribe of individuals is always sensational.
